Between 2022 and 2026, I designed and helped launch more than a thousand websites for Automattic’s Built By Express—a do-it-for-me (DIFM) service with a bold promise: hand us your idea, and in four business days you’ll have a site. Customers arrived with a paragraph, a logo, sometimes just a name and some keywords, and my job was to turn that into something polished, personal, and ready for the world—often at 90% or better customer satisfaction.

Below is a selection of those builds as they were delivered; the live sites belong to their owners now, and have grown and changed in ways organic websites should. What kept it inspiring was who the sites were for—authors finding a voice, artists a stage, entrepreneurs a storefront, small businesses a home on the web. But if I had to pick a favourite build, it would have to be Vegan Bunny Elle for the recipes alone.
